Hi Everyone:
Dick purchased the first kit and we can start building soon! Please respond to this email (EMAIL ME at Erich.Keane@verizon.net!) with the following information as soon as possible if you would like to participate. Jon Crew did a little research on the insurance, and found this out, which I figured might be important before answering this:

here is what I was told by Jim at Falcon Insurance (EAA):
No more than 5 partners can be insured. More, and no underwriters will touch it on an experimental.
For five licensed private pilots, with a 100 hrs or more, the cost is about 3000/year with 1 mil liability and 85K hull coverage. Thats 600/person/yearComparatively, a Cessna 152 would cost about 800/year for 5 partners.
Hull coverage during building: minimum is 40k coverage at 400/year. Thats 7 bucks/mo/partner.The building hull coverage is cancelled at time the plane starts moving and a credit or refund, for the remaining prorata. As a comparison, if one was building one themselves alone, fly insurance would be about 1900/year.
So it looks like we are locked into 5 flying owners, but this does not rule out non flying owners, although I don't really see the incentive for the later.

If there is enough interest for that, I would think that either doing one after the other, or offsetting them in a way where the 2nd one is used to fill the downtime of the other would work well.

However, I've only received a small number of responses so far to my emails, and it seems like we won't have this problem unless something changes.

This is something I've been thinking about for awhile. I started talking to a group of guys, but I've got a baby on the way, so a plane will have to wait... We did make a great spreadsheet to look at costs of building and ownership, so I thought I would share:
